FINE ARTS AT SEA

The MSC Grandiosa, the newest vessel in the MSC Cruises fleet to be inaugurated next November, will host the first ever fine art exhibition at sea.
This immersive experience honors the "Degas Danse Dessin" collection and aims to bring the guests closer to the artistic world with an exhibition of bewitching impressionist art.

Exhibited in a space custom designed in the walls of the very chic Atelier Bistrot, nestled in the heart of the ship on the Mediterranean promenade, this collection of Edgar Degas, truly unique, is gathered for the first time aboard a cruise ship.
The series "Degas Dance Drawing" presents 26 movement and dance studies, and has already been exhibited in the largest galleries and the most important international museums.
Degas's work illustrates the very essence of Romantic Paris, and goes hand in hand with the setting of the French bistro aboard the MSC Grandiosa.
This exhibition will also offer an immersive experience to its visitors with five videos scrolling alongside the drawings, detailing with great attention certain aspects of the work and the life of the artist.

For each of its new vessels, the company seeks to enrich the customer experience with new and unique elements that can not be found anywhere else at sea.
This new offering combines the world of fine arts and technology, creating a unique entertainment offered exclusively to guests of the company and allowing them to get closer to the world of art.

The introduction and presentation of these renowned works is part of the collaboration between MSC Cruises and THE AIMES, experts in the creation of multi-sensory and interactive experiences, to allow the public to come into contact with art and culture through innovative technology.
This exhibition was realized by Marcello Smarrelli, a specialist in art history, art critic and member of the THE AIMES exhibition production team.

"Beyond his romantic subjects at first glance, Degas was a great curious, on the lookout for new experiences, very interested in the new technologies available in his time, characterized by a great industrial boom. His artistic research was mainly focused on the movements of the human body, which he never stopped reproducing in his work.
For this reason, the practice of his art was fundamental to the birth of photography and cinema, of which Degas was a pioneer.
I am sure he would have loved this interactive exhibition, the first of its kind at sea.

Following its launch in November, the MSC Grandiosa will become the new flagship of the MSC Cruises fleet, and this state-of-the-art vessel will offer many experiences to each of its guests, with exceptional entertainment such as two new exclusive Cirque du Soleil shows. Kunsthistoricus, criticus en curator gevestigd in Rome.
