Dehli

Upon arrival our guide Rahul welcomes us with flower necklaces and we are on our way to new adventures that start with Delhi.
The capital has about 15 million inhabitants. It is important to know that with its billion 300 million Indians, India represents 17% of the world population.

Immediately we are in the bath with the crossing of the wide avenues of New Delhi, business and tourism India Gate, the Arc de Triomphe, the Parliament designed by British architects.

We visit the Lotus Temple in white marble that allows everyone, whatever their religion, to meditate and to recollect. We also stop at the Raj Ghat memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. A black marble platform recalls the place where he was cremated.

Old Delhi has a different image.

With its narrow and dusty streets, a colorful crowd, the incessant horns of rickshaws, motorcycles, cars, buses, the intoxicating scents of preparations on the stalls of merchants, not to mention the cows that are everywhere.

That's the heart of this beautiful country.
We discover, with pleasure, this picturesque area aboard a rickshaw.

We are obliged to take off our shoes and cover our head with a saffron scarf to enter the magnificent Sikh temple, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, in white marble, surmounted by a golden dome.
It shelters a basin, with the sacred water, intended for the ablutions. A large canteen, run by volunteers, offers a free meal to anyone who needs it (which is unique to all Sikh temples). We are told that sometimes around 25,000 people flock to the great hall to enjoy this wonderful service.

Built by the Mughals in the 17th century, the great red sandstone mosque, Jama Masjid stands, with its two minarets, on a promontory. It is the largest in India. As we are in a place of prayer, we must take off our shoes and the women cover themselves with a tunic provided at the entrance. Men in shorts should also cover their legs with a piece of cloth.
