Two sprint races
Draw between Wilde and Bouvy / Coens in Class 911
Doornbos / van Splunteren and the Redant family win in Cayman Clubsport class
The Porsche Endurance Trophy was kicked off this weekend on the Circuit Zolder, in the prestigious setting of the DTM.
On this occasion, no less than 13 Porsches were entered to compete in two one-hour races and one lap in the Belcar Endurance Championship.
And the least we can say is that the duels have not missed!
Race 1: John de Wilde and van Splunteren / Doornbos first winners
In Class 911, John de Wilde had the best start in Race 1.
But as we thought we were headed for victory, the Porsche 991 # 37 was too wide out of the Bianchi corner. As a result, de Wilde made a detour through the gravel pit and had to give up his leadership in favor of the # 3 THEMS Racing Porsche by EMG Motorsport, led by Nicolas van Dierendonck and Filip Teunkens.
John de Wilde continued to put the pressure and the neutralization of the race - following the minor exit of the # 992 PG Motorsport - allowed him to come back in front of the # 991 No Speed Limit Porsche of Fred Bouvy and Damien Coens.
With only eight minutes left in the restart, the positions remained unchanged until the finish, with both Porsches also in eighth and ninth places overall.
The # 03 of van Dierendonck and Teunkens completed the podium, while Franck Beliën finished fourth.
Associated with the Porsche 991 Speedlover # 150, Wim Meulders and Rik Renmans finished fifth.
In the new Cayman Clubsport category, reserved for the old and new generation Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, the # 711 of DVB Racing took the best start in front of the # 724 Team GP Elite, driven by Dutchman Robert Doornbos.
But the former F1 driver was waiting for the pit-stop of the DVB Racing car to take control before handing over to his teammate Paul van Splunteren.
The Dutchman managed to narrow down the advantage until the end and open the list of the Cayman Clubsport class.
The first accessit went to # 777 Cayman by PG Motorsport of Niels Nipperus and Lars Poell, who were ahead of the Redant family with # 700 RED ANT Racing.
"What a fight! I really had to fight in the last laps to win this victory.
Robert had dug a nice gap early in the race, but the Safety-Car made us lose everything, "said Paul van Splunteren.
And Robert Doornbos added: "I had a lot of fun driving this Porsche Cayman.
The sensations are very different from what I knew in single-seater, but I was pleasantly surprised by the balance of this car.
And then, it's a category where only flying can make the difference. "
Race 2: Bouvy / Coens and the Redant family in the rain
Due to the heavy rains that occurred shortly before the start, the second weekend game was launched under the "Safety-Car" procedure.
The opportunity for several competitors to perform their mandatory pit stop before the real kickoff.
In the 911 category, it was Fred Bouvy who made the most of this strategy, as the # 911 driver managed to take the reins of the race quickly before widening the gap. The appearance of the Safety-Car 16 minutes from the end did not change anything at the top of the ranking as the Porsche # 991 of Fred Bouvy and Damien Coens (No Speed Limit) won in front of # 37 John de Wilde, author of a nice comeback, and # 3 of Filip Teunkens and Nicolas van Dierendonck (THEMS Racing by EMG Motorsport).
In this second fairly clear confrontation, Franck Beliën was fourth in front of # 96 Luc Moortgat and Dieter and Wim Kuijl (LM Racing).
The last crew to return for the change of driver, Rik Renmans and Wim Meulders had to settle for sixth place on the # 150 Speedlover.
If it did not cause any disruption in the Class 911, the ultimate Safety-Car tightened the debate in the Cayman Clubsport category.
What offer a breathtaking final sprint of three rounds between the three leaders!
The fight finally turned to the advantage of the Redant family on the # 700 (RED ANT Racing) which won a first success in front of # 777 Niels Nipperus and Lars Poell (PG Motorsport Cayman) and the # 724 Paul van Splunteren and Robert Doornbos (Team GP Elite).
"The pit stop was the key moment of this race," responded Bert Redant, very happy.
"Yannick drove almost the entire race, which allowed us to finish first in Cayman and fifth among all Porsches. It's fantastic ! "
Behind this trio, # 701 GP of Harald and Alexander Goddijn and # 711 DVB Racing by Ad Geerts, Luc van der Feesten and Sven van Laere completed the Top 5 of the class.
The conditions were very difficult, but the Porsche-Michelin combination worked very well in the rain.
